A Scalable, Expert Workforce
At the core of Kerr Construction Whangarei is a professional team ranging from 30 to 60 specialists. We maintain a robust administrative and technical core designed to manage the complexities of large-scale civil and structural projects.
Our supervisors and foremen are hand-selected for their proven industry leadership. We believe the success of any project is rooted in the community; by prioritizing local subcontractors and Northland-based labour, we foster a collaborative ecosystem that ensures quality and drives the regional economy.
Strategic Self-Sufficiency: Our Plant & Equipment
In Northland’s unique geographical context, availability and logistics are often project bottlenecks. Kerr Construction has mitigated this through a strategy of total self-sufficiency. We own and maintain a comprehensive fleet of structural and civil engineering plant, surpassing standard industry inventories.
This heavy-asset investment allows us to execute complex multi-storey developments and precision precast concrete installations without relying on external hire availability. From mechanical assembly to major structural lifts, our internal resources ensure project timelines remain under our absolute control.

Six Decades of Engineering Continuity
Founded in 1960 by Alan and John Kerr, our firm was built on a foundation of industrial and civil specialization. As the sons of H.V. Kerr, the principals carried forward a multi-generational legacy of construction excellence that began with Kerr and Viscoe Limited.
Since our restructuring in 1984, we have remained a constant in a fluctuating market. While Northland has seen cycles of “boom and bust,” Kerr Construction Whangarei has thrived by retaining key expertise and adapting our capabilities. We don’t just build structures; we build the enduring infrastructure that supports Northland’s future.
